The 38-year-old Klitschko who is eight years older than Johnson has a record of 38-2 with 7 knockouts and is coming off an impressive win over the over-matches Cris Arreola at the Staples Center in Los Angeles last month. Arreola’s corner called it quits at the end of the tenth round..
Johnson, on the other hand is coming off a win over previously undefeated Devin Vargas. Johnson is ranked No. 6 both by the WBC and the WBA . Super Sport quoted Johnson as saying “I’ve worked long and hard for this chance and I’m going to take it.”
But Klitschko has other ideas. The Ukraine fighter said “I can barely wait to climb into the ring again.” Klitschko conceded that Johnson is a dangerous fighter, is undefeated and has a significantly better technique than my last opponent (Arreola).”
The WBC heavyweight king said he feels in top condition, had super preparations in Los Angeles and really enjoyed the fight against Arreola.
The fight in December will be Klitschko’s third defebse of the year having stopped Cuban Juan Carlos Gomez in the ninth round last May.
Vitali’s brother Wladimir Klitschko holds the IBF and WBO titles while giant Russian Nikolay Valuev is the WBA champion.
Vitali Klitschko is undefeated since losing by technical knockout to Lennox Lewis in 2003. The fight was stopped after six rounds because of a cut over Klitschko’s left eye. The Ukrainian was leading on the scorecards of all three judges and was giving Lewis a bad beating when the bout was stopped.
