THAI PRIME MINISTER WELCOMES WBC PRESIDENT JOSE SULAIMAN

   The Prime Minister if Thailand Abhisit Vejjajida has welcomed World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman who presented the Prime Minister a WBC Muay Thai gold and green championship belt.

 

Sulaiman was accompanied in the call on Prime Minister Vejjajida by the President of the Asian Boxing Council Gen.Kovid Bhakdibhumi and the Secretary of ABCO, Patrick Cusick.

   President Sulaiman asked the Prime Minister to constitute a national Thai Medical Board to ensure the highest levels of safety for boxing and Muay Thai fighters.

   Sulaiman who visited a group of individuals interned in a drug rehabilitation center requested the Prime Minister to try his best to provide jobs to all those who are released from the center after their treatment ends in order that they would have an opportunity to lead meaningful lives and not return to what Sulaiman referred to as a cancer of modern society.

   General Bhakdibhumi took President Sulaiman to visit the historic Muay Thai museum in Bangkok that covers the 300 years of the sport in Thailand.

 

The 79 year old WBC president was earlier awarded an honorary doctorate degree in physical education by Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University.

 

He is visiting Thailand with his son Fernando Sulaiman. They received a warm welcome at the Suvarnabhumi airport on their arrival last February 25 from WBC governor Edward Thangarajah, Thai promoter Wirat Wachiraratanawong and WBC flyweight interim champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam and straw weight champion Oleydong Sithsamerchai.
