The 1ST PHILIPPINE TENNIS COACHES WORKSHOP held last December 3, 2010 in Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) during the PCA Open 2010 had a total attendance of 110 coaches. It was the biggest gathering of tennis coaches, and the very first official Coaching Workshop for Filipino coaches.
To start off the event, Mr. Ajay Pathak (ITF and ATF Representative) made the opening/welcoming remarks. Then Coach Roland Kraut made an overview of the workshop and what the flow of events would be for the day.
There were 7 topics to be discussed by invited speakers. Coach Martin Misa talked about coaching development in the Philippines. Coach Chris Cuarto shared his Davis Cup experiences. Mr. Ed Puno gave his inputs about his expectations being a parent of a junior player. Coach Poli Hipolito and Coach Teng Flores shared about their Highschool and gradeschool school tennis program. Coach Roland Kraut shared how he benefited and the things he learned thru ITF programs. Coach Karl Santamaria talked about his ITF Junior circuit experiences. Coach Joseph Lizardo discussed his Tennis Academy in the U.S. Cecil Mamiit also gave a short inspiring message to the coaches.
The workshop also had good interaction and sharing of incites in the question and answer portions. The participants asked their questions and asked for some tips on certain areas, and the speakers gave their input.
The event was very successful. All participants were given a giveaway shirt and a certificate of attendance. But the most important thing that the coaches got this day – aside from added information about coaching and a better understanding of the local programs – was the importance of all local coaches to work together and have the same goal and direction.
