Manny Pacquiao’s planned family vacation in Australia with with wife Jinkee and their children has been postponed.
That’s the word from Pacquiao adviser Michael Koncz who was handling the visa requirements and the airline ticket and hotel bookings in Sydney for the Pacquiao’s to leave on January 1 .
Koncz informed www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports that Pacquiao decided to postpone the Australian trip where Koncz’ two daughters were also scheduled to fly in from the US to join them, because Pacquuiao “had to attend to some pressing and important matters.”
Koncz didn’t specify what they were.
However, he said Pacquiao would visit Australia some other time in the future.
Indications are that he would leave next week to participate in a Philippine Independence Day parade in New York scheduled for June 7 after which he will receive the “Fighter of the Year” award from the Boxing Writers Association of America on June 12.
He is also set to watch the welterweight title fight between Joshua Clottey and Miguel Cotto at New York ’s Madison Square Garden on June 13.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has been pushing for a Pacquiao-Cotto fight on October 17 which was a date chosen by Pacquiao for his next fight but Cotto is not likely to be the opponent.
Sugar Shane Mosley who is the reigning WBO welterweight champion has turned around from his original position of not willing to come down to fight Pacquiao at a catch-weight and now says he is ready to give in and fight at around 143-144 pounds and claimed in a statement that this is what Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach wanted.
However, Koncz has said in the past that its not what Roach wants that prevails, its what Manny wants and what’s best for the world’s No.1 pound-for-pound king.
Koncz told us that Pacquiao will fight on October 17 but he hasn’t decided on an opponent as yet.
