Top favorites San Sebastian-Excelroof showed too much class and power as it demolished Far Eastern U, 25-17, 25-11, 25-17, to clinch the top spot in the quarterfinal round of the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference at The Arena in San Juan on Thursday.
The Lady Stags battered the Lady Tams with a relentless attack, including 20 from Thai import Jeng Bualee while popular Suzanne Roces added eight kills as the duo accounted for half of the team’s 45 total.
The Recoletos-based squad also frustrated FEU‘s hitters with solid floor and net defense, limiting its rivals to just 18 kills en route to the 59-minute romp.
SSC thus closed out its elims round campaign with a 6-1 slate while dropping FEU to joint fourth with Lyceum at 4-3 heading into Sunday’s start of the quarterfinal phase of the conference sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.
Bualee who was at the top of her game ended up with 23 points while Roces also made three blocks and two aces and finished with 13 hits. Joy Benito backed them up with 10 points and Elaine Cruz had seven.
Rachel Anne Daquis, who normed 15 points heading into the contest, struggled for just five kills and wound up with 10 for FEU’s lone double-digit output.
Cherry Vivas and Michelle Carolino turned in a combined 13-point output while Monique Tiangco added four hits for the Lady Tams, who came into the match oozing with confidence following a four-straight romp that put them back into contention in the season-ending tournament backed by Accel, Mikasa and
Excelroof.
Meanwhile, the SSC-FEU game will be shown on NBN 4 starting at 2 p.m. Friday, according to the organizing Sports Vision with a replay over Viva Prime on Destiny Cable.
In the other game Adamson foiled Ateneo’s bid for a share of the lead as it carved out a tough 25-22, 22-25, 26-24, 25-22 victory at the close of the single round elims.
Former MVP Nerissa Bautista unloaded 24 kills for a 25-point effort while Angela Benting, Pau Soriano and Michelle Laborte turned in 19, 15 and 14 hits, respectively, for the Lady Falcons, who tied their victim at second at 5-2.
Fille Cainglet topscored for Ateneo with 17 hits as Thai import Boonyuen Surasawadee was pulled out in the last two sets of the one-hour, 41-minute match that was close throughout
