Respected sports leader Moying Martelino who is the chairman of the Shakey’s V League franchise holder Sports Vision said “Actually, we had to turn down a number of schools because we could only accept
two to maintain the level playing field.”

Martelino said they considered NU and Perpetual because they have
the strongest lineups among the applicants. The Lady Bulldogs and the Altalettes
are regulars in the UAAP and NCAA leagues, respectively.

Most volleyball aficionados believe that NU and UPHSD will provide a different kind of challenge to the
regular members of the league sponsored by Shakey’s, particularly the title
contenders, making the upcoming conference truly a tournament to watch.

Like the other teams in the tournament, NU and Perpetual will be reinforced by two guest
players to further boost their respective campaigns in the tournament presented
by PLDT MyDSL which also serves as part of the UAAP teams’ buildup for their collegiate campaigns this year.

NU has recruited former UST hitter Dindin Santiago, who will combine with
Jaja Santiago to anchor the team’s bid while Perpetual has opted to keep the
names of its guest players on hold until two weeks before the opening of the tournament.

San Sebastian, which lost the first conference title in a sudden death showdown with UST will lead the
title chase along with Ateneo, Adamson, Far Eastern U, St. Benilde and Lyceum,
making it an eight-team battle in the event backed by Accel, Mikasa and Mighty
Bond.

Ateneo, banking on the core of its squad that includes Fille Cainglet, Bea Pascual,
Gretchen Ho, Kara Acevedo and Dzi Gervacio, looms as the early favorite along
with former champions San Sebastian, Adamson and Far Eastern U.

Lyceum , which fell short in its bid in the first
conference appears ready to give the favorites a run for their money this conference with a
team built around Joy Cases, Jamie Pena Nikki Tabafunda, Tin Casanova and
backstopped by a pair of solid guest players in the awesome Mary Jean Balse and Dahlia Cruz.
